Dear Josie,
The nuclear industry is worried...
It was reported by the BBC yesterday that the nuclear industry is concerned that The Treasury might "ditch" the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) in next week's budget. EDF has made no secret of needing RAB in order to finance Sizewell C. Read more: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51733117. We sent a reaction to national press.
Take Action! Please sign (if you have not yet done so) and share as widely as you can the petition calling on government to stop RAB https://actions.sumofus.org/a/no-energy-bill-surcharge-for-new-nuclear.
Alison will deliver it to the Treasury and BEIS before the budget on 11 March. We are so grateful to our friends at SumofUs who swung into action yesterday, updated the petition (which was first circulated during last year's consultation about RAB) and pushed it out to their support base. We know many of you received messages from SumOfUs asking you to share as widely as you can. Please do - it's working - 10,000 more people have signed so far. You can also share our Facebook posts and Tweets.
New DCO date of 31 March
With the financing of Sizewell C in the balance, we learn that EDF is now aiming for 31 March to submit its application for a Development Consent Order (DCO). We understand that the likely reasons for EDF not being able to submit on 28 February are environmental obstacles. Documents on the Planning Inspectorate website show that government agencies are not happy. More on this in a future message.
STOP SIZEWELL C Public Meeting, Theberton Church at 10am on Saturday 21 March. Come along and join discussion about what happens in the DCO process, what we can do and - if you wish - to ask questions about our position on Sizewell C. The meeting will be held with the B1122 Action Group and Minsmere Levels Stakeholder Group and Bill Turnbull will Chair.
