Youth Group

The Toddlers and Youth Groups are run independently of the Parish Plan Steering Committee by Marie Ruth and her colleagues. However, we have agreed to carry progress reports from the groups on the Parish Plan webpage for ease of reference.

For the third year running, the weekly Walberswick Sports Camp will be organised over the summer holidays by Premier Sports of Norwich. As usual, the camps will be held at the village sports field, which provides a fantastic area for children of all ages. For a charge of £5, any child, resident or visitor, can enjoy a day of sports including archery, football, dodge ball, fencing and much else besides. The cost is generously subsidised by the Walberswick Common Lands Charity which has also agreed to redecorate the sports pavilion for the use of the Sports Camps. Last year, an average of 20 children per week attended the Sports Camps over a six week period.

The Walberswick Toddlers Group continues to flourish with an average of 15 babies and toddlers meeting each week during term time in the Village Hall. The group is organised by local mothers and charges £1 a child per session. All other costs are met by fund raising events organised during the year, including the very popular annual dog show held on the sports field. Consideration has been given to moving the Toddlers Group permanently to the sports field which would provide more scope and safer conditions for young children's activities. However, the state of the hut makes it unsuitable for indoor play.

Although first set up as a Working Party under the auspices of the Parish Plan, the Youth Group has developed its own management committee and is no longer responsible to the Steering Committee. However, we have agreed it would be sensible to continue to report the activities of the Youth Group on the Parish Plan webpage.
