The holiday season is upon us and over the last couple of weeks work has been going on to ready the village for the influx. Two of the most obvious projects have been the restoration of the thatch on what is commonly known as 'the bus stop' or 'the Jubilee seat' and the sluice bridge to Cliff Field Car Park. The thatch was completed just in time, as the westerly wind hit last night and would have caused havoc for the thatcher. The bridge is due to open later in the day and the works unit is currently being dismantled. New railings and reinforced foundations have made it very smart indeed.
The Ferry has a new jetty and has reopened, with a new price of £1, the first increase in 4 years and making it much easier for the ferrymen and women who will no longer have to carry huge amounts of change. One parent was heard to comment that it had taken the challenge out of the journey for their kids though, no more complicated maths to work out how much the family would cost and how much change they needed!
In addition other seasonal businesses have reopened; The Black Dog Deli opened on the 28th, as did The Little Wooden Hut down by the river, and today Tinkers open their door. The visitors are arriving in dribs and drabs, and by the weekend we expect to be full to the brim, let's hope the weather does us some favours...
