UPDATE: Walberswick to Southwold Bailey Bridge 23/11/18
Suffolk Highways has made positive progress towards repairing and reopening the currently closed bailey footbridge, connecting Walberswick with Southwold.
A site visit has been arranged for Tuesday 27 November to finalise the details of the deck strengthening work required and to undertake some trial fixings, with the intention to order materials and undertake the work week commencing 3 December.
As long as the weather is favourable, operatives will then return to the bridge mid- December to replace the broken pier bracing member, which will allow the bridge to be reopened before Christmas.
We will also be scheduling further repairs to other pier bracing members, which will take place later in December, however these works are not required for the bridge to be reopened.
Suffolk Highways thanks residents for their ongoing patience whilst these investigations take place and remedial works are planned.
