Suffolk Highways continues to make good progress to deliver the works required to reopen the currently closed bailey footbridge connecting Walberswick with Southwold.
Works to install the over-plating continues and is due to finish Thursday 13 December. During this work, we also instructed operatives to put in place some additional galvanised wire mesh to be fixed to the surface of the decking, as it was found to be slippery after a frost.
Works to replace the broken timber bracing at pier 2 was is now scheduled to happen on Friday 14 December, due to better tide times which will enable operatives to work in the daylight. The replacement of the bracing at pier 3 has been brought forward and is now planned for Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 December.
Suffolk Highways is still on schedule to reopen the bridge before Christmas and is hopeful with favourable weather this opening could be earlier than anticipated.
