STARTING NEXT TUESDAY, 1ST JUNE, WALBERSWICK WILL BECOME A COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH AREA.
This is how Community Speed Watch will work:
Seven community Speed Watch volunteers have been trained by Suffolk Constabulary Neighbourhood and Partnerships Team. We will be actively monitoring vehicle speeds from June 1.
CSW volunteers monitor vehicles from designated sites and details of offending vehicles are recorded.
Vehicle details are passed to the Community Speed Watch Coordinator for processing.
A PNC (Police National Computer) check is run on the vehicle and the registered keeper's information is obtained.
For the first offence a letter will be sent to the registered keeper by the police, advising on details of the offence and a reminder of the effects of their action.
For the second offence a follow up warning letter is sent to the registered keeper from the police.
Persistent offenders (more than two offences) will be added to a tasking list and circulated for targeted police intervention.
Signs will be permanently displayed in the village, warning drivers that this is a Community Speed Watch area.
