HM The Queen - mourning arrangements in Walberswick
Following the very sad news of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen this news item is to provide information on the arrangements made within Walberswick for the next 10 days, during the run-up to the state funeral, which will be on 19th September. This day will be a public holiday
1) Village Hall Flag - this has been at half mast since the news came through on 8th September. At 11am on Saturday 10th September the flag will be raised again to full height as this day is “Accession day” and it is raised in honour of our new King, King Charles III. The flag stays raised at full height until 1PM on Sunday when it is lowered again to half mast and then stays like that until after the state funeral on Monday 19th September; the flag will be raised to full height once again at 8AM on the day after the state funeral, i.e. Tuesday 20th September
2) Book of Condolence - this is available for signing in person at St. Andrews Church in Walberswick and also at the Library in Southwold. In additon there is an online Book of Condolence available; follow the link to the Suffolk County Council Book of Condolence
3) Floral tributes - If anyone would like to leave floral tributes, these may be left at the base of the Walberswick Village sign opposite the Church. Balmoral has requested that no packaging be left with any floral tributes please
4) County Proclamation for the new King - this will take place in Ipswich at The Cornhill between 1PM and 1.30PM on Sunday 11th September. It will be read by the High Sheriff of Suffolk. Following this the proclamation will be read at 3.30PM in each of the 23 towns of Suffolk, including in Southwold outside the Town Hall. The Chair of Walberswick Parish Council will formally be attending to represent the village, but everyone is welcome to attend.
