A Love of Walberswick - Part II
The winter sky, with countless stars
Muffled sounds of crashing sea
Standing still on the Green
Distant memories come to me
The darkness insulates and holds me
The coldness helps me think
It takes me to another life
But there is one enduring link
I’ve been to many places and
I’ve lived in quite a few
I’ve never lived in Walberswick
But it’s the place I come back to
The windmill and the marshes
The flood of fifty-three
The tide meets the allotments
Dangerous swimming in the sea
Mrs Reynolds had a gift shop
Smiled and gave a book to me
My Nan took me up the hoist
Hot chestnuts for our tea
My DNA is in the graveyard
My name is on the stones
The families mostly gone now
Leaving just some ancient bones
It’s the place where I was started
A constant that has been true
I’ve never lived in Walberswick
But it’s the place I come back to
