The new bird hide in Bennett’s Drift is now open. If you are a birder, it might be on a parr with Minsmere as the log book already shows 81 different species have been spotted! It also offers beautiful views across the marshes and is a peaceful and relaxing place to visit.
On Saturday, 21st July, his birthday, the hide was dedicated and a plaque unveiled to the memory of Tony Lancaster who sadly passed away last year. A crowd of Walberswickians attended in the summer sunshine to listen to Mandy and Pat’s recollections of how the hide came about and how this particular spot was chosen by Tony. Canon Harry Edwards gave the blessing and those of us who’d brought something to toast with, popped their corks and the party began!
Many of us then attended one of Walberswick’s best ever parties in Pat’s beautiful garden. We sat in the shady spots whilst Jon Winyard barbecued the steaks, and we drank to Tony’s memory in abundance.
It was a very memorable occasion. Thank you Pat and Tony.
