Here is the latest on the Bailey Bridge:
After many, many emails and phone calls and great support from Suffolk County Councillor Michael Ladd, and district Councillors Gower and Beavan, Suffolk Highways and SCC have confirmed that the report from their consultant engineers will be ready next week and our stakeholder group will meet with them on 2 November. Given the delay in the report and uncertainty about reopening, we have likewise pushed to ensure Ferry Service continues. Dani has just received confirmation from SCC on continuing the service for an additional two weeks (i.e until the end of the first week of November). Fares will be £1 and hours will be reduced in the afternoon because of the time change. But we are extremely grateful to Dani and her crew for providing a way to cross the river. We will continue to insist to SCC that the Ferry Service run until the bridge is reopened.
We have early indications that the bridge can be repaired by addressing the wooden cross beam and the decking above the corroded cross beams. We will definitely be pushing for the quickest means to get the bridge reopened when we meet. I will report back on this after the 2 November meeting or earlier if I have other information.
On the Otter bridge, better news. It is fixed and reopened as of this afternoon!
The WPC will continue to provide updates to help keep everyone informed. Thank you for all your support!
