You may have seen some people working under the Bailey Bridge this week. Unfortunately, they are not doing repairs, but rather are the consultant engineers from Suffolk Highways who are doing the more in-depth inspection. Many would ask why Suffolk County Council closed the bridge on the basis of these same engineers’ report when they had not yet done this detailed work……. On the more positive, this analysis should lead to a report in the next week that will be discussed with the Stakeholders Group with the aim of getting the bridge reopened as quickly as possible. This meeting must take place before the end of October. The WPC is also reminding Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Highways of the need to keep the Ferry Service open. So far, they have not given an indication of what happens in November. You can help by writing and calling Suffolk Highways to get this commitment. We will also keep everyone informed through regular updates on this website.
As for our other bridge — known as ‘Otter Bridge’ — that goes over the river beyond the campground, many will have noticed that this was closed this week. Here we have much better news. Following discussions with Suffolk Highways, they are able to do a quick repair of the rotted boards on the bridge deck and we expect the bridge to be back in use early next week week (22-23 October).
