Moon on a Wire
The moon does her balancing act
Gliding out to sea on a silver wire.
Startled watchers conspire in a pact
Of silence. Rabbits suspend their entire
Operation and gape like a circus audience.
Gulls circle, enrapt at her performance
I am lucky to have a ringside seat
I catch it all from Shirreff’s bench.
The princess moves her dainty feet
Step by step. Her tiny fists clench
A pole of light. She pouts, and frowns
In concentration. If she falls, she drowns
