Following recent communication that the Bailey Footbridge connecting Walberswick with Southwold is closing on safety grounds, Suffolk Highways would like to keep you in the loop with progress relating to this.
They understand that this closure will no doubt cause difficulties, and apologise, they have had to make this decision for the safety of the users – this is their paramount priority and responsibility.
Suffolk Highways is working with the local community to best manage the situation and minimise the impact of the closure. One way they're doing this is by engaging the Walberswick to Southwold Ferry Service to run a free service until 6pm today Tuesday, and from 8am-5pm from Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th inclusive, this is so users have the rest of the working week to make alternative arrangements when wanting to travel to and from Southwold.
Work is ongoing to complete the assessment of the bridge’s condition, including what repairs are required and the cost associated with this. As soon as further details come to light they will keep you informed and engaged throughout this process.
